Brian, that battery looks easy to split?
New cells can be very cheap, not hard to replace.
Old battery dead, nothing to lose.

Bosch battery pack.jpg

Came apart easily enough and there are 15 individual batteries in there.

The only reference I can find os 072. They are 26mm in diameter and 42mm long.

How would I go about sourcing replacement individual batteries though confuse

I'd try. Gp battery's, rs , farrnel or maplin. Maplin can be a bit pricey sometimes.

Hi Brian

I have repaired my 18v Makita battery, you will need to meter them in pairs to find the possible weak

or faulty battery. You can buy them individually but not recommended I bought 2 and got away with it.I cant think of the name

of who I used but found them on the web.The good thing is only a few pounds so worth a try.You will need to solder them at

the end so keep a record of the setup, ring if this does not make sense.

                                          Cheer John.

Thanks guys!

A pucca replacement Bosch battery is about the same price as a full set of batteries so I will look at checking the ones in my pack (signs of leakage on a few) and see if I can find some individual duff ones to replace.

I am assuming that I am looking for a voltage of about 2V+ for each pair?

Sorry to be dim but I am not good at electrickery disbelief

6 duff battery cells!

I just threw away a De Walt battery which looks the same shape. I wonder if they use the same cells. Need to check as might be able to get one good battery out of two duff ones.....

Very kind offer Phil but let me check out another defunct De Walt unit (I think I have somewhere) first biggrin

This battery malarky is a real larf!

I have a couple of duff De Walt batteries so started to take one apart (yes the batteries are the same size just a few itty bitty volts higher) and then thought I had better put it on charge first to be able to check the individual batteries. So I put it all back together, charged it and, nice surprise, all the batteries tested good and the overall voltage of the pack was just over 19V! I had put the battery to one side as it would only keep the drill going for a few seconds before dying. However, just taking it apart and putting it back together seems to have been enough to encourage it to work properly.  I got bored running the drill waiting for it to die even with a cable tie strapped onto the trigger confuse

Anyways up, had a go at the other De Walt battery pack and that turned out to be a duffer! I could only rescue four of the batteries to use in the Bosch pack so am two short no

So can I take you up on your offer of your battery unit please Phil????

Thanks for the battery Phil - all the cells seem good - ta!

However, I must confess that I have got close to chucking the whole lot in the bin a few times! Not easy soldering the cells together no

But I will persevere biggrin

Got the battery unit back together after a lot of cursing and struggling disbelief

After a short charge it held up long enough to strim all the bits of lawn I need.

Fully charged it is now showing a tad over 20 volts which can be explained by having used a few batteries from Phil's unit which were a slightly higher voltage so all seems good biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Not sure I would rush to do this again though. With the benefit of hindsight, I should have bought a new unit as jt suggested but, as I said, where's the fun in that no

Thanks again for the hints and tips plus, of course, the spare battery from Phil which made it possible for me to finish the project!
