If you want cheap unit, a Garmin Quest2 is a great little device - only roads (no mapping) displayed but you plot your line and then follow it. I used one for over 2 years, leading new runs every few weeks. You can only buy these second hand now. Battery lasts >10 hours

I know a few that have used thre road angel 7000 - but my personal feeling is these are a little fiddly to use and screen quite poor on bright days. Battery life also naff.

I now have a SatMap Active10 which is excellent - there's one for sale on the forum right now, but you'll also need bike mount and protective cover is also recommended. The only issue I ever have with mine is losing sat conenction on very cold days in partially shaded areas. Excellent mapping and tracks-up. Battery good for a whole days laning.

Lots of others out there which I'm sure you'll get some responses on.....................

I had mapfactor Navigator 11 working on a PDA and also my android phone with the lanes marked. Using the free software and OSM maps it cost nothing however getting the overlays loaded is quite complex. It tracks up and can be custom made to audio warn of lanes entrances and exits.

It is very tricky to do and not recommended for the novice.

Far easier to use, substantially cheaper and head and shoulders above the antiquated Memory map is Quo mapping. Works the same as Memory map so doesn't track up (yet) but many more features than MM and crucially can import and batch convert most any GPS format, KML files are directly imported into Quo, Memory map only gives you a few choices. Also available in Android version but have not used this as it was not available before.

Now the good part. Quo mapping is a free software, it is a full working unlimited download, the OS maps can be purchased in tiles so 6/7 tiles covers Devon and a little bit more and cost 0.80p+vat per tile for the landranger 1:50000, yes you read that right so £6-7 is all it will cost.

Memory map sucks but the hardcore users still use this expensive pile of poo.

Can't understand why someone would use a device that doesn't track up and cost a small fortune for the maps and device. (unless someone is good enough to loan one!)
