Motorcycle Parking In Beer

Just to let everyone know that East Devon District Council has put up motorcycles prohibited signs on the wide pavement parking area at the bottom of Beer Street adjacent to the little car park by the Anchor Pub.  The signs warn that penalties will apply.  There are no motorcycle parking bays in the central carpark, and there is no free parking down on the beach for anyone.  So unless you can find a parking spot on the side of the road,  the only place to park a bike legally in Beer now is Beer Head car park.

Nice to know what EDDC actually thinks of motorcyclists.

So if we park four bikes in one parking space do we get discount = of course not. Glad to see our vehicle tax been put to good use with another sign. So no parking near duckies then ? Am i just being picky or is someone in beer not like motorcyclists ?

No its EDDC being their normal prattish selves,  Its not as if they are worried about obstructing the pavement as there are bicycle parking racks there.

There used to be motorcycle bays in the central car park but these were removed last year when they rejigged the parking bays. The bays are still there but you cannot use them as you will probably end up being boxed in by 2 cars.

So if I take a group on the A2E to Dukkies for a pasty on the beach and park next to it as usual  I'm liable for prosecution then ???

That's a good way to encourage trade nono

You will find if you put your bikes in the car park there is no charge for bikes despite no bike bays. Contact John Lacey at EDDC, he is very helpful.

On road and pavements would fall under Devon County who EDDC have been enforcing on their behalf.

That's not what the signs they have just put up say.  Wonder why I bother ever putting anything on this forum when you get slapped in the mouth. I WILL PUT A PICCY UP OF THE SIGN

THe central car park in beer is a nightmare with white and yellow parking boxes for long and short stay, and god help you if you park in the wrong bay, and they do slap tickets on bikes

In Plymouth if the bike park bay in a public car park is full you can legally park in a car space - free

All parking on the beach is private and owned by the East Devon Fishermens association, Many of the offroad parking spaces in Beer are private and owned by Beer Parish Council, THe coach park is owned by the parish council, so beware  There are not many legal or free places to park in Beer

Civil parking enforcement relies on a number plate, they write to DVLA who charge to give them your details , they then send out tickets.

You do not need a number plate to leave your vehicle on any land other than the highway, a simple answer to avoid all this hassle on private land is to cover your plate,a bit of ply carried with a pre drilled hole and a screw is all that's needed, civil enforcement staff are not permitted to remove it!

They can ask for a name and address so John Appleseed springs to mind, if they call police it's civil and as soon as you leave the private land uncover the plate.

All enforcement on private land revolves around a number plate, I'm amazed others haven't cottoned on to this!
