2015-17 Yam WR250f (reverse motor) opinions


Quite possibly my next bike. Anyone had a go/ own one? Looks a decent machine!

Ive got a 2016 YZ250FX. Exceptional bike - cant fault it yet.
The general conventional chassis layout changes make it feel a lot lighter than my old WRF (YZF motor), the fuel injection is virtually instant - takes a little getting used to.
It turns much quicker but you have to be committed when cornering hard, weight right upto the front of the bike, otherwise the front can wash a little.
Its not a problem but does need your own personal adjustment.
Quick - jeezus yes, round my own lap it can almost be ridden a gear higher than my earlier WRF, its that smooth.
Im still getting used to mine, only done a few practise events with one Core Ashcombe enduro, but IMHO, it is a major improvement.
Faults - same as YZFs, air filter needs replacing with those that have the waterproof bit at the bottom, there is a tendancy for s**t to build up in the wrong places.
The air filter cover is a bit naff but doesnt appear to be a problem.
Ive road registered mine and Ive trail ridden it for a few miles, I wanted a bike that was properly competitive but could also be used for the lanes, its absolutely fine.
The 6th gear removes the old WRF issue with gearing high meaning you had to cross neutral / hit neutral etc.
Mine is a bit loud, no one else thinks so, but mine is YZF exhaust rather than the longer WRF.
Irritatingly my battery died after a couple of months for no apparent reason.
I run mine on tubliss, feels light, flickable and can be ridden smoothly in a higher gear than previous generation Yams, but if you need to clear ruts, ditch etc, just flick the throttle and the front is instantly up in the air.
If you do get one, pm me, Ive been through all parts x-ref etc for earlier models, might save a bit if chasing around, ie earlier front wheel can be simply machined to take later bearings etc.
I built a spare set of wheels for race and the originals for trail riding.
Only slight criticism, the frame, apparently, is the same as the 450, could have been smaller, maybe.

Reading this makes me want one even more went to fowlers end of last yer looking at wr450 ended up looking at the 250 as well and the feel of the weight is so different compared to the 2005 I have it feels a lot lighter even though there is not much in it. Shame my van fair it's mot so badly as ended up buying a new van an not a new bike

Thanks for the advice! I love my husky te310, it's going to be a hard bike to replace, I'm thinking: WR, HUSKY 350 or beta 300 rr.

I rode a Husky 310, without doubt the best Husky 4T that has been made, up there with anything else.
I did look at a new SWM? version, couldnt really fault it but just felt a little down to a price and a friend of mine had a few reliability issues with his new 310 original Husky, not SWM, gearbox etc, but he did ride national championship class so harder on stuff than the rest of us.
The new Yam will feel "bigger" but no "heavier".
I dont think there is much in old to new weight wise, its about where its placed, and that makes a very noticeable difference.
If I hadnt bought my Yam, I would have bought a 310.
Racewise the new generation 2Ts are better, super smooth and trialsie but STINK on a trail, so cant do both.
Lovely for the rider, maybe, but not those following.

I bought a 2016 wr450 in October, really pleased with it, was a bit harsh in the suspension for the first 30 hrs but very plush now, with the high air intake she will go into water up to the bottom front yoke... Highly recommend the new wr

Yours is an absolute cracker matebiggrin It's come along about 12 months too early for me as i think I'm going to run the husky for another 12 months now that Gibbs are doing the suspension.
