Restricted Byway 4x4 damage

IMG_3353.JPG

I have ridden this lane many times pre 2006 when it was a RUPP. It's in Somerset near Bruton. Then it was a solid surfaced IunIMG_3354.JPGdamaged lane. Then along comes SCC urged on by the anti vehicle lobby and reclassified all the Somerset RUPPs as restricted Byways. Obviously patting themselves on their backs for keeping all those nasty trail bike riders of these rights of way. As you can see it's had the opposite effect and the lane had been completely destroyed by illegal 4x4 use. Not a motorcycle tyre track insight!!

As predicted law abiding trail riders lose out, illegal use continues to cause the problems we get accused of, the way becomes unusable, stupid.

Bad law is very difficult to enforce and I can see NERC being consigned to the dustbin of history as it will be ignored by all right thinking people.

The rabid GLEAM stalwarts will continue to ignore the facts as they seek to uninvent the motor vehicle. The invention of the electric bicycle will present them with their next target I am sure.

The rolling parish reviews will creep around the counties erecting Restricted Byway signs which will point to ways which either stay obviously vehicular as they are ignored, or ways which are unusable by all when lack of vehicular usage leads to them becoming so overgrown as to become impassable.
