I have looked on memory map and it seems you can buy 1.25k for £20 but it says only a years subscription. Does that seem right my uncle has had it on his old phone for years or once loaded on a device it will stay there once offline?. Ray sent me his 1:50k but seem to have disappeared aswell.
Still unsure what app to be using alpine quest is brilliant it seems but then keeps playing up when trying to save routes etc.
Osmand seems also pretty good and alot of people use but it doesnt have the individual lane description which is handy when making routes when I haven't been or can't remember.
So I was looking to memory maps which people have recommended but not to sure.
Ideally I seem to have got used to alpine quest and if I have os map on there would be great. I also use my phone for plotting and to navigate.
With Memory Map you can either take out an annual subscription for one, or many maps, at various prices, or a perpetual (never ending) licenced map for £hundred-odd.
The subscription map will be updated, the one-off payment perpetual map will not get updates. This may not be much of an issue, but the older 1:50k MM map I sent you the link to try with the Alpine Quest app is an old perpetual file, and does not for example have the South Devon Highway (Kingskerswell bypass) on it.
I am currently using a 2022 England-Wales perpetual 1:25k map on the MM app on my android phone. On my laptop, I have this same map, plus loads of older 1:50k and 25k perpetual maps. I quite like the MM for All app.
Alpine Quest app for £7.99 with old perpetual MM files is good value.
Outdoor Active, another subscription app, has numerous extra search and sharing functions.
Then there's Garmin, and several other phone apps using OS maps. Quite a choice.
Ok thanks the the info ray it seems alpine is quite the good one then just need to get the hang of it and work out where the recorded tracks are going to. As for the link you sent it doesn't work anymore. But the maps seem pretty good with the app just with the os you have the green dotted line to be certain is you weren't sure of the exact route.
As you say alot of the other choices may also be good but at a much higher price.
View ranger just seemed to be so easy to use compared to these others. Thanks again I will have more of a play with these apps.
Fabian, I've had to delete those map files from that drive to make more space, so the link won't work anymore, but if you have already used them in your AlpineQuest app, you must have downloaded the map files to your phone, so they'll be on it somewhere.
In AQ the tracks (and routes) are known as Placemarks, and can be found under the 'flag' button
and to see the list, tap Displayed Placemarks
you will then see a list of all your tracks and routes, and the overlay files you've imported. The lists can be quite long after a while
but you can sort that list into an order that suites you, either by the name you've given them or the date created etc
Yes unfortunately I was using alpine quest without an account so it doesn't seem to have saved. I have now got an account so hopefully all this will be solved. I also have a new phone but I think with signing into the account files are transferred "I think". But yes thanks for clearing that up I will have a look into that a bit more.
