Montesa 4Ride S3 electric start mod

Hi Folks,

I'm considering a 4Ride to see me into my dotage, and have just had a look at a 17 plate model with the S3 electric start mod.

I was expecting the button to kick it into life, but it didn't seem to be man enough for the job. The seller said that the engine needs to be warm for it to work properly. The battery is newish apparently.

Does anyone have experience with the S3 mod. Is this normal?

Ta,

Tim

Personally I wouldnt bother with the additional cost and complexity
I have had the sister 4RT bikes since they first came out in 2005 and the kickstart procedure is a doddle
Just push through twice to the foot peg and third push of the kickstart, she will fire up no bother (its only a quarter quadrant push & not a kick anyway to the footpeg and not a full length kick)
Its so simple and I can start mine by hand
4RT is the easiest 4T bike I have ever had to start and in comparison to my XR400 (which is a long throw full kick)
Make sure valves are correct (screw and locknut) and good e5 fuel and the 4RT is a lovely starter

***The bikes dont like deep water though, as the airbox is low - so the Ford like at Bow Bridge in S Hams would be a no-no on a 4 Ride

I owned a 4 ride for a few years and as above its a doddle to start but there is a knack to it. Once you have it it will fire up 1st time hot or cold very easily. Fitting the e start makes the filter change which is already a PITA even more difficult and you lose the space underneath the seat which is where I carried spare fuel - which on one of these is an absolute must due to tiny tank and lack of fuel gauge/low fuel warning light.

Fantastic bikes, loved mine and the only limiting factor as to where it would go was the person sat on it
